1UK's comments on this 43′ Camper and Nicholson

An extremely good-looking, fast and powerful yacht, designed and built by Camper and Nicholson in 1960 to Lloyds 100A1 for H.H. Edwards as one of a series of offshore race yachts he commissioned.

A truly classic design of the period and the ultimate in design and construction from that time.

Planked in 1 3/16” Honduras mahogany with splined seams all copper fastened to Canadian rock elm timbers with alternate heavy oak frames.

Deck beams, beam shelves and stringers in Silver Spruce.

Bronze and gun metal through bolts.

Lead ballast keel, galvanised strap floors.

1999 Refit at Traditional Sail, Salcombe.

In 1999 the yacht had a major bottom end job with garboards and lower 3 planks each side replaced, the strap floors removed and ragalvanised and the bronze keel bolts replaced.

In 2003 the deck was relaid in solid, yacht laid teak, caulked and payed with butyl rubber compound.

In 2014  another period of work saw all strap floors in the forward sections of the boat removed and re-galvanised then refitted with all new bolts.  Also 6 new planks per side in way of the new strap floors.

Stainless steel stanchions, pull-pit and push-pit. Stainless steel stemhead fitting takes the fore stay with twin chain rollers.

Bronze fair leads foe and aft on the varnished teak toe rails. Bronze and teak bar mooring cleats

Varnished teak coach-roof extends forward of the mast with 2 clear Perspex sky-lights on teak frames and a separate teak hatch on the fore deck.

The coach-roof is raised to a dog-house aft which over-hangs the cock-pit to give excellent shelter.

Very attractive cock-pit, deep and sheltered by the dog-house, all varnished teak with grating in the well.

Seat locker aft for the helmsman. Seat lockers each side forward.

Low level cross beam in front of the steering pedestal takes the main sheet.

Wheel steering on a pedestal which also carries the compass and cables to a quadrant under the aft deck.

    Emergency tiller.

All varnish work on deck has been stripped in re-coated in recent years and is now in superb condition.

    .

Bermudian sloop rig on keel-stepped alloy mast, twin spreaders.

Stainless steel standing rigging all replaced in 1995 to internal s/s chain plates.

Profurl roller headsail. Twin standing back-stays to the quarters.

Roller reefing varnished boom sheets to a track across the cock-pit, easily stepped over, carrying a main sheet winch. Tufnol main sheet blocks.

    Winches

Pair of new Harken 56 top action self tailing primary winches take the headsail sheets through turning blocks on the toe rail tracks.

Pair of Lewmar 48 secondary sheet winches on the aft cockpit coamings

Captive wire main halyard winch and top action headsail halyard winches

    Sails.

1994 mainsail and genoa on the roller.  Headsail and genoa have both had major repairs for this season and are in nice condition with good shape.

Recent asymmetric spinnaker which is very easy to set and handle is great for off wind sailing when short handed.

Some older sails including working jib which fits on the Profurl roller gear, storm jib, spinnaker and ghoster.

    Varnished wooden spinnaker pole.

This very fine, big fast yacht has had some major work done in the last few years to correct the usual problems that yachts of this period can suffer including centre-line work to strap floors, and new planking in way, a very smart – and expensive –  new, solid teak deck, a new engine and she is in first class condition.

She is a powerful yacht but is easily handled by two from the safety of her exceptional cock-pit and capable of fast, comfortable passages.

This is an opportunity to acquire one of these lovely Camper and Nicholson yachts. Only 4 or 5 were built like this, all similar following the first Quiver 3 design with the huge advantage of someone else having done all the expensive work.
